Diet for type 1 diabetic on insulin pump?
Hi I'm a type 1 diabetic and I'm looking to lose weight. I don't have too much to lose because I've always followed a relatively strict diabetic meal plan. However, I'm getting married in a few months and I'd like to lose about twenty pounds.I've been in touch with Jenny Craig, who doesn't work with type 1 diabetics who are on an insulin pump, and they referred me to Lindora medical clinic because they have nurse practitioners and other nurses on staff. I got in touch with them today and they don't deal with type 1 diabetics whatsoever. Most of these weight loss programs do " low carb" or no carb dieting which results in pretty extreme weight loss. Those types of diets for a diabetic can be pretty risky. Are there any " quick fix" diets that are type 1 diabetic friendly? Please, do not post any information or suggestions regarding type 2 diabetics adult onset diabetes diabetes as a result of obesity. This question is specific to type 1 juvenile diabetes insulin dependent diabetes, thanks

Can diabetics eat four plates of spaggeti and insert insulin or take meds (type 2 diabetes) and not feel ill?

Is it discrimination to ask a Type 1 Diabetic to check her levels or take her insulin somewhere else?
I have read on the American Diabetes Association that it is discrimination not to allow a diabetic to have their medications meter, test strips, insulin, syringes and lancets with them . But would it be discrimation if I was asked to do these tests in the bathroom or somewhere else, when in a public spot. Now, I only do this if I " believe" my health is in danger, too low or high. This takes all of under 30 seconds. I know " courteous" is the good rule, but if I feel unsure, I feel do it then and there and fix myself get juice or get insulin fast . The time I take waiting in line for the bathroom or going in there to check levels, could be detrimental to me. So is it discrimination to ask me to check elsewhere even if I feel it is medically necessary?? Am I wrong to think, I can and should check immediately if I feel something is wrong? For those who may not understand. I medical supplies are not across any table. They are in my lap. That is where my meter is too. I turn away towards my husband or hover over. Those who do notice, are staring at me.. when they don't even talk to me. No blood is ever spilled on anything. My used lancets and test strips are always thrown away at home, never anywhere else. Rude is the people who stare. 30 seconds of your life.. turn around. I don't complain when people breast feed, I look the other way. Or when people smoke. Walk away or turn away.

Small refrigerators for insulin?
I've been a little concerned about keeping my insulin in the fridge lately, the temperatures changes dramatically with the food in the fridge and with the defrost cycle and it has come right down to the freezing point a few times. I don't think the insulin froze but the milk has crusted over once. However how are those small refrigerators for storing insulin? The dorm style ones are typically compressor base so they cycle on and off, the absorption ones cost three times more but are silent and the mini thermoelectric ones don't have thermostats and probably have a computer type fan running all the time. What do you use to keep your insulin cool at home?

Will i get a insulin pup for free sense medicade switch there policy?

Do artificial sweetners (like aspartame) also increase insulin levels?

Can an establishment tell a patron Not to check their blood sugar levels or take their insulin?
My husband retired from the military and I were at a VFW Veterans of Foreign War Post. We have attended this place for over a year now. The people there, patrons and employees, are aware I am a type one diabetic. Last night an employee wanting to become a nurse, writes me a note and hands it to me, in front of everyone. It said that she doesn't want to be rude, but if I am going to check my blood sugar levels or take my insulin, I need to do it in the bathroom. For my safety and for the others safety. First off, I am discreet, extremely careful, and can do all of this in under a minute. The only way someone is going to notice is if they are honestly staring at me. I feel this would be like saying to the other person, if you need to adjust your prosthetic leg go in the bathroom. People have diseases, prosthetics, etc. They gives NO ONE the right to make you feel uncomfortable or dirty. I feel it was inconsiderate and rude to do this infront of all of our friends and most of all WRONG. I want to talk to her manager. Am I wrong? What should I do about this?

Can Insulin cause to lose body fat?
My Brother was big boned and worked out allot, ate healthy. once he was diagnosed with diabetes and started taking injections, he lost body fat and got ripped. I thought insulin makes a person fat. and np he continued his normal routine just had to take injections. Diabetes runs in the family heavily so doctor said he just got the unluck of the draw.
