I'm an 18 year old female. I am very active, I get enough exercise, I eat relatively healthy, and I don't live an extremely stressful lifestyle. I'm not overweight but not skinny, I'm pretty average. Hypertension runs in my mom's side of the family for almost every generation.I have been on birth control for about 2 years, but I noticed my BP being a little high even before I went on it. The last time I went to the doctor it was 157 90. Today I checked it, and it was better, but it was still 130 89. It's really scaring me because 18 years olds are still kids pretty much and shouldn't have to worry about health problems that usually happens in older adults who aren't in the best of shape. It's just when I think of high blood pressure, I think of it being a 45 year old who is 50 lbs overweight and drinks and smokes. I do neither. Can BC Pills cause hypertension? Is it solely genetic? Do I need to completely eliminate salt from my diet? I don't know what to do. Should I call the doctor? If so, what do I tell him? Thanks.

Hypertension at 18 years old?
I have only logged my blood pressure for two days now, but it has worried me.Feb. 14th 175 102 About an hour after that I checked it again and got 138 84, which is a great improvement in comparison, but still high.Today Feb. 15th 150 88I am getting kind of worried. I am only 18 years old. I am a female. I am at a somewhat healthy weight approximately 160 at 5'6 . The only meat I ever eat is fish. I do take in a pretty large amount of sodium throughout the day I have not logged how much yet, I'm sorry. I am working full time, a job where I am walking for the majority of the time. Hypertension runs in my family on my mother's side. I certainly plan to decrease my sodium intake substantially, and I am working on creating a daily set meal plan for myself to help.My main question is, Is hypertension at this age normal? And what other things could I do to decrease my blood pressure?No I have not seen a doctor yet, but I am definitely planning on it. I am going to call to set up an appointment tomorrow I just wanted to see if I could get some tips before I go. Thanks you guys
