Can they do an oral glucose tolerance test with Coke?
Hi On Monday I'm scheduled to have an oral glucose tolerance test. The " instructions" says I'll be in the hospital for 3 hours and need to drink a glucose solution with lemon. I don't like lemon, and given that the test itself is quite uncomfortable, could I ask to use Coke as a substitute? There's a CDC doc that says that 2 cans of Coke Pepsi are the equivalent of the glucose solution, but I don't know whether it's just an example to further explain how much sugar there's in the darn solution or if it could be used as a substitute...
The blood glucose tolerance test results were normal but fasting sugar level reads 6 and6.7.why?
glucose tolerance test results showed normal reading of 4.8. but since after that my fasting blood sugar reading before breakfast shows between 6 and 6.7 can you tell me what this means.
Why do I need to go on a special diet before taking OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test).?
I looked this test up on the internet and could find nothing about a special diet. What does the diet do, stop me from getting too many carbs or prepare my body for the excessive carbs in the drink? What happens if I eat more or less carbs then the diet tells me too? This is a two hour test.
Are there any alternatives for glucose tolerance test?
I'm pregnant and need to take the oral glucose tolerance test next month. I also have celiac disease and need to eat a gluten free diet especially important during pregnancy . I checked the drinks they use during the test and they were not labeled gluten free. I contacted the company and they have no knowledge of whether their product is gluten free or not, so basically I can't trust it. I talked to the doctor about this and she said there was an alternative test where you eat a certain quantity of brach's jelly, which gives you the 50 g of glucose needed. So I looked it up and brach's jelly beans are indeed NOT gluten free, so another dead end. She said it can be anything as long as it has 50 grams of glucose and she trusts me doing this research because I'm a nurse . I've heard that you can substitute certain soft drinks, but so far my online search has turned up nothing. Does anyone know of any other substitutions that will give you 50 grams of glucose?I'm not sure how to measure 50 grams of glucose from those though, I want it to be an exact amount so it's a valid test. The glucose tablets may be an option, I'll have to look at that one. I was hoping to find an online source that had references but I'm not sure if that exists.
How long does it take to get results back from 3 hour glucose tolerance test?
Would my glucose tolerance test be accurate if I exercised right before I went in to take it?
I am 28 weeks pregnant and just had a glucose tolerance test. 1 2 hour before I drank the sugar drink, I went on a walk. No one said I couldn't exercise to try and get my blood sugar down. In my first pregnancy I ended up with gestational diabetes, and as it turns out, this pregnancy my glucose test came back normal. Is it accurate or did I mess it up by exercising beforehand?

1 hour glucose tolerance test--FAILED!?
I am so bummed, and worried that I have gestational diabetes. I am 29 weeks pregnant and just had an ultrasound last week and the baby isn't too big so far, only 2 lbs, 14 ounces 36th percentile , but I don't know when the baby starts to grow larger because of the GD? I did not have this problem with my son, so I am freaking out. My son was very small all the way through my pregnancy usually staying in the 5 7th percentile, and was born only 5 lbs, 10 ounces, so I am worried that this baby a girl is already quite a bit larger than he was at this stage, but still not too large? Am I making any sense at all? I am going in for my 3 hour glucose test tomorrow morning, I just wanted to hear other opinions and experiences out there. Thanks
Is this normal for a glucose tolerance test?
I had a glucose tolerance trst done because when I eat I feel dizzy and lightheaded. My before glucola blood sugar was 85, 30 min was 139, 1hr was 70, 2 hr was 85. The lab techs were worried about me during the test beause of the drop, and counseled me about hypoglecemia. My dr called yesterday and told me all my results were normal. They also want to start me on meds to lower my triglycerides, without first trying diet and excercise. Im trying to figure out if I should find another dr, or continue seeing this one. My main concern is tbat I was admitted to the hospital saturday night, because I was so dizzy and lightheaded after eating, I turned white, and was sweating. When I got to hospital my bs was 78. The drs office didnt seem to care, and just wants to do a arthritis test because my inflamation rate was high.

Glucose tolerance test-how did you feel? (Non Gestational Diabetes)?
I took the glucose tolerance test for 3 hours as a screening for diabetes, not for gestational diabetes I'm not pregnant . Most people I've spoken to reported feeling dizzy, lightheaded, shaky, and they were starving and needed a snack immediately. I fasted for 10 hours, woke up nauseous as usual, took the test and other than wanting to throw up from the feeling of fullness that consumed me after drinking all the sugar, I only noticed an uncomfortable heartburn that sat on my chest for the full three hours, & a desperate thirst. I still couldn't eat when I got home. I finally did 2 hours later, thus breaking a 15 hour fast. I then fell into a deep sleep 30 minutes later. Any thoughts while I wait for the results?
