Question about Symlin Pen for diabetes?
I have Type 1 diabetes. I take Lantus and Humalog insulin. I was just prescribed Symlin today. I do not take the Humalog very often. I use a sliding scale and take it only as needed after meals and sometimes I don't even need to take it.My doctor said to take 60 units of the Symlin at every major meal.Do I take the Symlin even if I don't need to take the Humalog???? Also, Do I take the Symlin before a meal or after a meal???Wow. That's a lot to read John. Thanks for your answer. I'll talk with my doctor about all of this. Usually the Lantus keeps my blood sugars steady throughout the day...but my Aic this time was 7.6 which is high. My doctor would like to see it at around 6. I think you are right though that I should take the Humalog before a meal since it takes a while for it to even start working. The Symlin is taken as a separate shot and is supposed to be taken at least two inches away from where the insulin is injected. Until yesterday I had never heard of Symlin.

I have kidney disease so I was tested for diabetes seeing I have a horrible family history of it. My immediate glucose was 118 fasting. That worried them seeing I have all diabetes symptoms do I was ordered the a1c. The doctor later called and said it was " fine" . Not giving me any numbers or anything. Is the a1c an accurate test to rule out diabetes or should they be doing more and different tests? Diabetes seems to be the only factor that could be causing my mysterious kidney disease.

last year I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2. my weight was 80 kg.I was prescribed 4 pills a day. My gloucose fasting level was 220 mg dl.A1C test was 9.1 %4 months ago i went to my doctor after reducing my weight and not taking my meds. my cuurent weight was 64 kg. My glucose fasting level was 64 mg dlAfter going through my previous test results and the current ones, the doctor has put me off from taking meds. And I was told to follow a 1500 calorie diet for my weight maintenance and 1 hour regular excercise which I have been doing for the past 4 months. Doctor, dietitian, everyone was like in shock with my weight loss and glucose fasting level. my question is, if i continue to monitor what im eating and keep excercising do you think i will need to reply on meds again or do you think i can manage without meds?
