I have no diabetes risk factors but all of the symptoms?
5 months ago, I was tested for diabetes and the test came up as negative.None of my immediate family members have diabetes, I'm not overweight, I don't have high cholesterol and I am active so my diabetes risk is 'low.' I must admit I don't eat very well though.. For the past week I've been urinating frequently, have a dry mouth, gotten a urinary tract infection and been VERY tired which are all symptoms of type 2 diabetes. I'm going back to the doctor tomorrow to get retested. How likely is it for me to have diabetes?Any help or comments are really appreciated.
Can eating clean lower diabetes risk?
My brother was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He's been eating just for many years and now must clean up his diet. I also eat more junk than I should, but not as much as he did.I recently read The Eat Clean Diet Recharged by Tosca Reno. In it she talks about cutting out all processed, sweet, fried, junk, and fast foods switching to whole grains for things like cereal oatmeal mostly , rice, pasta, and breads eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies and drinking just plain water or unsweetened tea black coffee. She's limiting portion size by eating much smaller amounts, but more frequently. Together this way of eating is supposed to keep your energy and blood sugar more steady by providing a more steady supply of food throughout the day. So my question is, if I adopt all or most of this method of eating for me and my family longterm, will I reduce my chances of also becoming diabetic? I'm 36 and currently about 55 pounds overweight. I know it will help me lose weight because I've already lost 2 pounds since I started Friday.I didn't know whole grains and white flour still act the same for diabetics. I don't think I could cut carbs totally out of my family diet, but I am cutting back myself. I'm limiting carbs by dividing my plate into quarters with half for the veggies, the other quarters lean protein and whole grain or other healthy carbs. This limit my carbs to 1 4 of the meal with no seconds. I only have 1 slice of bread for a sandwich. I know I was eating way too many of them because I have PCOS which makes you crave them.
Does diabetes risk increase with age?
My grandmother was telling me that after 65, the pancrease isn't able to produce insulin as effectively. I would like to know if this is true and, if it is, why exactly. Is it a normal part of the aging process? Please give me sources if you can.
How can I warn a family member about diabetes risk?
My mom has been drinking Coke for 30 years, sometimes a sixpack per day. She is 64 and gets little exercise. I weighed over 9 lbs at birth, which I understand also increases the risk.I would like to show her something, an article or website, that would make enough of an impression on her to inspire a change in her habits.Any links, references, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
How do you calculate your diabetes risk?
i had a dream i was in school and was diagnosed with diabetes i am 22 . i am pretty sure i do not have it as i have none of the symptoms that show before someone in our family gets it. i am not thirsty often, not peeing more than usual and no bad eye sight. focusing is a bit hard for me but i have been that way since i was a child honestly i suspect a mild to moderate case of ADD on that one .but anyways what is my actual chances of getting diabetes in my lifetime? it runs on both sides of my family quite strongly. my dad has it. all of his siblings have it. his mom has it. most aunts and and grandparents have it. my mom does not have it but several of her cousins do. her mom does. again several great grandparents also had it.i eat ok. not lots of vegetable but i have cut down on sugar. i am still fairly overweight but that also seems to run in the family on my dads side. they are all big girls. also guys really.i don't smoke, i have an extremely active job and walk outside a lot i like nature , i rarely drink.also my sugar tested at 144 at one point. which was high but it was right back down to normal the next day. and i was also sick at that time so i assumed it had to do with being sick.i had just had a big bag of m & m's lol. yes i know eating the whole bag was bad, but i only did it once.
Does sugar binging increase diabetes risks?
A friend of mine with a family history of diabetes tends to sugar binge. She isn't overweight, she thinks she should lose 10lb but its probably more about toning from where I am standing. Her grandfather and aunt both had diabetes. Is she increasing her risks of getting it with the sugar binges? I think she does it at least once a month.
Genetically higher diabetes risk?
If my farther and his mother have both gotten diabetes could it mean i have a genetically higher risk of getting it myself? My dad got it i dont know which type before i was born. He was in the army at the time so i presume he was quite fit and eating fairly healthily, so im not really sure what caused him to develop it.Then many years later his mother was diagnosed again i dont know which type although shes quite old and overweight, so that might just be why she got it. Basically im concerned that my dad got it when he was quite fit, could it be genetic?Oh just to add my dad had to inject insulin, i think that made him type 2? dr.frank his mother, I.E my grandmother. Not my mother developed diabetes.
