My AP Bio released exam MCQ reads " which of the following is least likely to be associated with diabetes mellitus?" and one of the options that WEREn't the answer was " Muscle cells readily oxidize fats and proteins." How is this related to diabetes mellitus patients who have high blood glucose levels because their liver cells cannot stock up glucose in glycogen form due to low responsiveness to insulin or no insulin at all? Is it that muscle cells aren't able to use sugar as an ATP source any more due to the high blood glucose level? If so, why? If not, what's the alternate explanation?
