First diabetes diagnosis?
when was the first case of diabetes ever recorded?

New diabetes diagnosis - blood sugar 168 - did not fast before test - should I have another test run?
My doctor ran a blood test to check my calcium level because I had muscle cramping. I did not fast before the test. I just got a message from the doctor stating my blood sugar is 168 and that I am diabetic. I've read through the symptoms of diabetes and I don't have any of the other symptoms. The doctor wants me to pick up a prescription for Clometformin ? sp . I'm hesitent to accept this diagnosis under these conditions... any suggestions?

Panic attacks after diabetes diagnosis. Still going.?
I'm fine with the diagnosis. But now the anxiety and waves of panic attacks won't stop. I'm on effexor now, that has helped me be panic free for the last 2 years. But now I am on Metformin and asprin. I get dizzy at night and have panic attacks. I can't sleep and can't stop crying. My Anxiety Panic disorder has been flared up by this diabetes diagnosis. I don't know what to do now.

Do I have a false diabetes diagnosis?
My doctor recently diagnosed me as diabetic based on my fasting blood sugar 142 and a A1c of 6 mean avg glucose 114 . However, I was not told to fast before the " fasting" test nor did they ask me if I had been fasting I had a lot of sugary food a few hours before the test and, more importantly, some sugary breakfast drinks about an hour before. I told my doctor this, but he says the A1C test confirms the diagnosis, which I thought required 2 fasting blood sugar tests. He's a new doctor for me, and I'm not crazy about him for various reasons. Should I get a second opinion new doctor, and, if so, what should I tell the new doctor? Should I tell him about the previous doctor? I don't want my insurance rates to skyrocket if I don't really have this disorder.Much thanks.

Are there or what are the ethical issues with diabetes diagnosis testing?

Type one diabetes diagnosis.?
I know it's foolish to inquire medical advice over the internet but i'm just looking for a second opinion before i return to the doctors again.I am a seventeen year old girl, i'm 5'6 and i weight eight stone and half an ounce. I am constantly tired. Exhausted even.I am always hungry. I eat, i eat and i eat. Everything from junk food to healthy food and i never feel full, i recently went to the doctors due to rapid weight loss and failure to gain even a pound and thirst problems. these problems have been around for a long time . I have terrible short sightedness and suffer from blurry vision and headaches even when i wear my glasses. When i went to the doctors, she set me up for some blood tests, she thought i may have a thyroid problem or anaemia. All of the tests came back negative. I'm wondering if i do suffer from type one diabetes is there a unique test to prove this or would it have shown up in any blood test? Also, i am not sure if this is relavent, but my eldest sister suffers from type one diabetes.Any relavent feedback is welcome.

Was a diabetes diagnosis a complete shock to you?
Before you were diagnosed with diabetes, did you notice anything in the years before your diabetes that may have indicated a prediabetic state? Was your diagnosis a complete shock? How long did you feel bad before you were diagnosed.Diabetes runs in my family, Ive been tested and I havent' been diagnosed with diabetes, but I often feel bad when I don't watch my diet. Sometimes dizzy after I eat sugars.

Has anyone been advised by their doctor to take Metformin after a pre-diabetes diagnosis?
My son's lab work indicates that he is NOT diabetic at this time but doctor says that his c peptide count is higher than normal. My son is already on a diet and exercise program to lose weight but I don't know if taking the metformin is really necessary. Does anyone have any advice?

Type 2 diabetes diagnosis today - any advice?
My doctor phoned today to say I have type 2 and my blood count is 17.Anyone know if that is really bad or just a bit bad?She sent some Metformin round to the house so I could start taking it today 500mg 3 times a day.I'm 52 and thought my health was ok though looking back I have had all the symptoms for a year. I think they have just got worse so slowly I didn't really notice .Any advice or information would be gratefully received.Thanks.

Please share you type 1 diabetes diagnosis stories!!! I need help!!!?
Since about the end of november almost two months now I have been so incredibly fatigued, no matter how much or how little sleep I get the fatigue is just unbearable I cant last more than two or so hours without having to go back to sleep again I am also going to the toilet very frequently Atleast every hour or two and maybe three or four time during the night. I am so thirsty, imdrinking heaps. I am constantly hungry, like I will eat a meal and then have hunger pains etc afterwards as if I havnt eaten a thing I have lost and kept of 7kg since the end of the christmas before last so im not sure if that says anything. And I just have no energy to do anything at all except lie around all day, I could sleep all day if i could I am also craving sugary food and drinks alot But I have found in recent times that consuming anything fatty or sugary makes me feel horrible Im a 14 year old girl almost 15 and this is unbearable, I need your help What do you think this is?What do you suggest I do?Please share your type one diabetes diagnosis stories also as I seem to have most of the symptoms. As much information for all of the questions would be very helpful Thanks in advance

How do you get your spouse to understand your diabetes diagnosis?
I was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and given Metformin 500 mg to take twice daily. At this point, I feel HORRIBLE. I have to guess it is my body getting accustomed to operating on a " normal" glucose level" instead of a high one. I'm nauseated, weak, shaky, and all I want to do is sleep. I feel like I have the flu and have been hit by a Mack truck. My husband thinks I should be able to just take my meds and get on with it, a period of adjustment is not needed, and all these things are " in my head." Of course he will not do any research on his own. Is there anyone out there with a story like mine, and if so, would you be willing to share it? I think it would help convince him if he knew I am not the only one who has gone through this. Thanks in advance. Thanks for all the answers. This morning I woke up and when I couldn't even look at my bottle of meds without feeling nauseated I decided to call the Doctor. She told me to come in. I told my husband I was too ill to drive, so he had to take me. She decided to cut the dose in half for now, took some blood, and has got me in a nutrition class at a local hospital. She talked with both of us at length and he understands more than he did before. And I have to admit, despite the fact that my father, his siblings, and BOTH his parents all have Type II Diabetes, I didn't know as much as I should have about it. It looks like this is going to be a learning experience for both of us.

Doctors divided on diabetes diagnosis (details)?
My family doctor said my blood sugar was close to the diabetic level and was alarmed about it. I probably should have told her I heard the same thing about 20 years ago but I forgot. A different doctor looked at my blood sugar and said it was on the high end of normal, but it was ok. What should I do? Should I get a third opinion?
