He was doing excellent with his self care until a couple of days ago, he thinks he can eat whatever he wants and if sugar is high, he can just eat something with sugar,and if too low he can just take a shot for it, I was going to have his dr. talk to him about it tomm, I don't think it's as simple as that?He has only been diagnosed a few weeks, all new to us.

I'm a diabetic, type 2. I have been for years. I take medications and insulin. I sort of watch my diet and exercise little. I check my sugar levels only when I feel the number is at an extreme high or low. I can usually tell what my sugar is by the way I feel. I get my strips free from the VA so it's not that I'm cheap. I feel best when my sugar is at 160 to 180, high by the standards. Once a doctor told me that he treats the patient, not the numbers. That makes sense. My body temperature runs normally about 97.5. I'm good there. If I were to take my temperature and get that reading I wouldn't take a hot bath to raise the number. Why should I struggle to get sugar readings that are considered the norm. I'm a little short 5''7" . Should I get stretched? I see all the products for sale and the ads on TV and think somebody is making a lot of money on the diabetes epidemic. Or am I completely ignorant of the facts?Maybe I should add that I am 65 years old. I ride motorcycles now and for 45 years. Over the past 8 years I have had 10 cardiac stents implanted. I am out of shape but look younger than a 55 year old and I'm strong. I've thumbed my nose at most of the required routines that a diabetic is told to perform. My eyes are good. Neuropathy in my extremities is my biggest problem. I won't eat rabbit food. And it's too late to die young.
